In social studies, we began learning about La Grande Paix de Montreal (The Great Peace of Montreal) today. Students explored when the event took place (1701) and who was involved (new comers from New France, and Indigenous peoples from the Iroquois Confederacy colonies). Ask your child about The Tree of Peace that was planted. We will continue to explore this historic event that helped shape Canada to what it is today, and how it is connected to The Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
We are working on updating our subject-specific vocabulary wall. Ask your child about the vocabulary game we played (it asked about previously taught words from earlier this year). As you know, it is important to continue to maintain the knowledge that we have learned thus far as the P.A.T. tests at the end of the year are cumulative. Students were given individually assigned novels to read over the winter break. Now that we have returned, and students have had a chance to finish their novels, they are now beginning their assigned comprehension questions. Ask you child how they are doing with these! If their novel is at home, please help them to bring it back to school to help with answering some of the comprehension questions. Reminders: Swimming forms are now past due. Please return ASAP if you have not done so already.
