Has your child told you about An Elder In The Making, the documentary series that we have been exploring? The documentary focuses on the truth portion of Truth and Reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. The film focuses on the history of the lands that we continue to benefit from, which is relevant to all Canadian students personally and culturally. Our goals are to:
• Discuss the land and ecology of the southern Alberta area • Discuss, the Buffalo keystone species of Treaty 7 territory • Challenge students and enhance understanding and perspectives of First Nations peoples Ultimately, students will gain a better understanding of their own surroundings (household, school, town/city, culture, country, etc) by understanding different perspectives. The film identifies the connection between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples by highlighting the commonalities between the modern Canadian and Indigenous cultures. We are about halfway through the series of video clips - Ask your child what has resonated with them most so far! Students were given a Sky Science study guide to help with their review of the unit. See if your child brought their study guide home, and if they have any remaining questions or misunderstandings that could be further supported at home. Students will be begin writing the test tomorrow! Reminders: - Vincent Massey's Open House is TONIGHT! (See previous post for further information) - Candy Grams will continue to be sold by Room 22 until Monday, and they will be delivered to students on Wed 12th - Culture Night on Wed 12th - No school on Thurs 13th or Fri 14th (Teacher's Convention), or Monday 17th (Family Day)
